Technology is…
Scott McClellan from Collide recently posed the question, “Technology is…”, asking readers to fill in the blank. Not one to stand back from debate, I threw my hat in the ring. Technology is … not enough.

I’d like to personally welcome you to WorshipInHD, a community driven church graphic design marketplace for widescreen church resources. This was a labor of love for me, and an idea that sat on the shelf for close to a year. That is, until now.
When I switched our church over to widescreen/HD, I saw a lack of widescreen and church HD resources available on the Internet. I wanted to create a social network dedicated not only to help churches connect with each other but with the resources to help them enhance the worship experience.
If this is your first visit to our site, please sign up for a free account, then check back here to get a full rundown of what it’s all about, and where you might fit in. Please, browse through our content, check out our features, join the community, and help us help you!
Church Leaders
If you’re a church leader or involved in the video ministry at your church, then this site is especially for you. In the marketplace, you’ll find resources for HD and widescreen backgrounds in a live, community driven environment. If your church is blessed enough to have developed your own widescreen resources, you can share them with other churches by uploading to the marketplace. You can choose your own price to sell them, or you can share them with others for free. The social network is available to allow you to connect with other church leaders to learn, share experiences, and share church graphic design best practices.Graphic Designers
Our marketplace is especially designed to enable graphic designers to join and contribute their HD and widescreen backgrounds. If you just create backgrounds for fun for your church, or you are an independent graphic designer creating and selling backgrounds, you can easily create a storefront and upload your graphics. Set your price or post them for free; it’s completely up to you. Sign up for a free account today to find out how to contribute.Features

I’m re-posting a GREAT blog post from Stephen Proctor at WorshipVJ. We don’t do a lot with video here, at least not yet. But most of us use and show video on our systems. In general, this is all good stuff to know regarding compression and video formats. Check it out…
Video Formatting for VJ-ing from [...]

When asked if “media and technology would save the Church from low attendance and irrelevance”, Scott McClellan from Collide Magazine thoughtfully responded “No”. He then went on to say that “authenticity trumps gadgetry any day”. I LOVE that statement. But as much as I love his answer, I have to disagree with it. Otherwise, this [...]

Thanks, Mike, great points. Especially on pointing out the relational aspect. This is key.

You are dead on with this statement: “It had nothing to do the tools that were used, but the message and how it was internalized.”
If people are simply looking for a great show then church technology can certainly provide it to them but so can a concert outside of the church.
The goal of [...]

Do I think that technology will save the church? No, not at all.
Relationships will save the church.
Living out the Gospels will save the church.
However I will say this, the reporter is correct… the church in America IS suffering from low attendance. No don’t get me wrong, that is a broad brush stroke; [...]

Scott McClellan at Collide Magazine was recently asked by a reporter if he thought technology would “save the Church from low attendance and irrelevance”. It’s interesting to me how the person asking the question reveals their presupposition - that the “Church” is indeed suffering from low attendance and irrelevance. Oddly enough, the question itself is [...]

Josh Willits wrote a new blog post: EasyWorship 2009 - First Take 3 months ago
We’ve been using EasyWorship 2009 in our worship service for about a month now, so I wanted to post some of my initial thoughts on the upgrade from the previous version. A few of the new features we just don’t use yet (like VJ mode and scheduled playback). But there are two new features that [...]

Tom, we upgraded, and it’s nice. You’ll be fine with the older version. However, you should note that to use foldback feature you need a Matrox box, which is a few hundred dollars on top of the upgrade. We just ordered it, so I’m excited to play around with it. I [...]

Josh Willits wrote a new blog post: Designing a Worship Service (Part II) 3 months, 1 week ago
To piggyback on our past post, “Designing a Worship Service”, designing a worship service should happen with a dedicated, closed team of staff or volunteers (as the case may be). There are four things I believe you need to do in order to effectively design your worship service:
Don’t only look to the future, you need [...]

Craig Groeschel shared this benediction at the 2008 Leadership Summit, and I thought I’d share it here.
May God bless you with discomfort…
At easy answers, half-truths,
and superficial relationships,
so that you may live deep within your heart.May God bless you with anger…
At injustice, and exploitation of people,
so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

Josh Willits wrote a new blog post: Managing your ”schedule” 4 months, 1 week ago
I have a great team of volunteers who help to run our visuals. But with volunteers often comes unique management challenges. For instance, someone can understand how to use our system and can be very good at it, but they just don’t have a knack for choosing relevant backgrounds for a service.
I’m not sure if [...]

Josh Willits wrote a new blog post: Designing a Worship Service 4 months, 3 weeks ago
I read an interesting article from the Midnight Oil guys recently about the Main Idea. The challenge they give is a good one: “What is the single, central theme derived from the scriptural text that is the driving concept for every element in the service?”
Do you do this? You should be asking yourselves several [...]

Nope. We’re still at 2007. Some of the features look nice (especially the stage support, aka foldback, web support, and audio support), but we’re a very small church, and can get by without them. Still considering it, though, since the upgrade price in only $99.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve surely heard about the new version of ProPresenter, to be released shortly. We run EasyWorship, but from what I’ve seen, ProPresenter 4 is the real deal. I had the pleasure of visiting a church in Petaluma, CA, last week running ProPresenter (on a MAC) for 2 16:9 [...]
